 FPCCI opposes two weekly holidays
Updated at: 2210 PST,  Tuesday, August 25, 2009
FPCCI opposes two weekly holidays KARACHI: Sultan Ahmed Chawla, President FPCCI has said that the proposed plan of announcing Saturday a weekly holiday will create disorder in working schedules and reduce production capacity rather than bringing discipline in official working.

Chawla said present economic condition demands our attention towards increasing our interaction with our major trading partners around the globe and by announcing Saturday a weekly holiday, the interaction time with our trading partners from western side will be reduced which will deprive our exporters to maintain liaison with them.

He proposed to the government that keeping in view the present need for more interaction with our importers from western side, the government should not announce Saturday a weekly holiday.

''Business Community feels that the public dealing on Saturdays are already too short which will negatively affect the trade and economic activity of the country.

In the presence of prevailing worst power crises, day by day deteriorating law and order situation and less manufacturing across the country, the trade and economy of Pakistan is confronting its worst scenario. Hence the business community demanded that the Government should maintain Sunday as weekly holiday instead of two weekly holidays in order to accelerate the economic wheel and achieve the set export target, he said.
