Updated at: 1137 PST,  Monday, August 30, 2010
Thatta begins to come back on normalcy THATTA: The breach at Bharya Sheedi Mori area of Thatta, has been 80 percent plugged, after which the city has commenced to return to normal life amid sustained flood situation in Sajawal, Geo News reported Monday.

The flood tide is battering towards Dadu and Juhi cities.

The jawans of Engineering Corps have succeeded in gagging Bharya Sheedi Mori breach in Thatta on River Indus, almost saving the city the threat of inundation.

The people in large number are coming back to their houses amid life attaining somewhat same old routine.

Meantime, Sajawal’s ground links are still cut off with other areas, all government offices and hospitals sunk under water. The breach in Soojani Molchand Bund could not be plugged owing to the inundation of Sajawal.

The flood current, pounding the hundreds of villages in Dadu’s tehsil of Mehar, entered Khairpur Nathan Shah and fast roaring towards Dadu and Juhi cities.

It should be mentioned here that a protective embankment has been constructed to protect these two cities.

According to DCO Qambar Shahdadkot Yasin Shar, the breaches in Naseer Shakh, Mir Shakh and Nawab Shakh have put Wara, Gaji Khavar and Naseerabad at risk of inundation and the work has been jump-started to construct protective embankments outside these cities on emergency basis.

Pak Army and Navy are straining to rescue the people stranded in Qabu Saeed Khan and abutting areas with the help of boats and helicopters.

River Indus water significantly retreated at Akil Agani Loop Bund, Nusrat Loop bund and Hasan Loop Bund and hence, risk of Larkana’s deluge has averted.
