Russian girl lies between tracks as train passes over

Updated at: 1234 PST,  Sunday, August 08, 2010
Russian girl lies between tracks as train passes over MOSCOW: In a terrifying and gripping video, a Russian girl is seen tempting death by train. In a crazy stunt recorded by a friend, the girl lays on a rail track and lets a speeding train pass only inches over her body. A group of young adults is seen in the background, giving the girl encouragement.

The video shows the blonde run onto the track and lay face-down before the train speeds over her. After the train is gone, the teen is seen rising from and walking off the tracks with a big smile on her face while 2 females and 1 male watch.

The stunt is thought to have been recorded in Russia. It has been posted all across the internet, and concerned viewers have expressed their outrage. One railroad mechanic said that the traction motors on trains in North America hang to about 5 inches from the ties, which would kill someone before the first car passes over them if they try this stunt.

Network Rail spokesman Kevin Groves says that this may be alright to do in Russia, but trains in the UK are different. The space between the train and track is only a few inches, he continued, adding that if someone tried this in Britain, they would die.

More young people are taking fatal risks on railways. Last year, almost 50 people died on live tracks, and about 25% of these were under the age of 20. One of the most dangerous stunts is ‘playing chicken’, where they stand in a train’s path and move out of the way at the last second.
