| GEO Sports | | Pakistan’s Haider wins silver medal in Long Jump in Paralympics Games | Updated at: 0341 PST, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 BEIJING: Pakistan’s Haider Ali created history in the Paralympics Games when he won silver medal for his country in the Long Jump competition here on Tuesday.
Haider who took part in the T-38 category covered the distance of 6.44 meter, equal to Tunisian competitor who also covered the same distance but won the Gold Medal, said Pakistan’s Chef De Mission Imran Jamil Shami while talking to media. He said that Haider could not win the Gold, because in the preliminary rounds of five jumps, one of his jumps was rejected.
Pakistan had never won a medal in the Paralympics Games, Shami said.
Regarding failure of power lifter Naveed Ahmed Butt in doping, Shami called for the provision of doping test and other related facilities in the country, so that for international competitions, these kinds of tests of various athletes should be taken before hand to avoid embarrassment.
