 KARACHI: Those who have disrupted the peace of Karachi must be brought to justice, demanded Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief Nawaz Sharif and Chairman Sindh National Front Mumtaz Bhutto during a press conference after they held a meeting here on Monday.
"We pray that normalcy gets restored in Karachi and it once again becomes the city of lights," they hoped.
Lambasting the state role in regard to the devastation unleashed by the unprecedented floods in Sindh, the two leaders said the government should have taken timely steps to effectively cope with the flood situation. The right time to take the necessary measures was when the first downpour lashed the region, they regretted.
They observed that the plight of the citizens in interior parts of Sindh was miserable as floods have so far devoured 350 people. "We want the government and opposition to join hands for the cause of serving humanity but it failed to come up with a positive response."
Nawaz Sharif said it would be a thing of honour for the Punjab if it could help the flood victims of Sindh and added that Punjab had extended assistance worth millions of rupees for the flood hits.
He said he would visit the deluge-affected areas of Sindh tomorrow (Tuesday).
The PML-N Chief expressed dejection that 'we start begging on pettiest things' and called for discontinuation of this unfortunate trend.
He said Rs29 billion had been kept in the Prime Minister's discretionary fund and urged the PM to use it for relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims. | |  | |
