The quake struck some 110 miles (180 km) southeast of Lima, near the coast, at a depth of 30 miles (49 km) the USGS said.
Local radio network RPP reported that the earthquake woke local residents before dawn on Wednesday, but that there were no immediate reports of damages.
The center of the earthquake was not near any mines. Peruis a major exporter of silver, copper and zinc. |  | |
