Karzai asks U.S. for equipments to strengthen Afghanistan
Updated at: 0610 PST,  Wednesday, September 24, 2008
BAGHDAD: Afghan President Hamid Karzai has sent a message for the next U.S. president: Quickly send money, planes and other equipment to strengthen the Afghan army and “enable us to defend ourselves and to fight the bad guys.

''When either Democrat Barack Obama or Republican John McCain takes office in January, he will face an increasingly vicious battle against insurgents in Afghanistan.

Karzai also told an audience Tuesday at the Asia Society that the inauguration of Pakistan's new democratic government holds out hope that the region will move “beyond the days where one or the other of us made extremism or radicalism'' a matter of policy.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have long squabbled over who is responsible for the extremists who have made their shared border abase.
