| GEO World | | Brother of Colombia's justice minister nabbed for alleged drug ties | Updated at: 0101 PST, Friday, September 26, 2008 BOGOTA: A former chief of prosecutors who is a brother of Colombia's Justice Minister Fabio Valencia, Guillermo Leon Valencia, was arrested Thursday for alleged ties to drug traffickers, authorities said.
Valencia was arrested in Medellin, where he lives, after a Supreme Court-appointed prosecutor issued an arrest warrant.
Attorney General Mario Iguaran had fired Valencia August 21 after telephone conversations became public that linked Valencia to alleged drug trafficker Daniel Rendon (also known as 'Don Mario').
Valencia was charged with plotting to commit a crime, illicit enrichment, fraud and abuse of privileged information, among other crimes, officials said.
The justice minister said he respected the attorney general's decision but that as a brother, he was "deeply hurt." | |
