KARACHI: Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri has said the detained Pakistani cargo ship and crew in Myanmar will be released soon as the Government of Pakistan is in touch with relevant parties through different sources including diplomatic channels.
A Pakistani cargo ship coming from China developed a fault near Hong Kong and was taken for repairs in Myanmar where the importer got a stay order. The case is now pending in court.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the PNSC head office on Friday, Ghauri said all PNSC ships were insured and the relevant insurance company would take up the case and get the ship released with bank guarantee before the court’s final decision in Myanmar.
“We will try to settle the issue out of court. The importer has filed damages of $0.65 million against PNSC, while we will try and ask the company to settle the case for $0.1 million,” the minister said.
The minister said such incidents were insignificant and the ship would be freed in some weeks along with its crew.
