LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt, who had made tall claims of victory, returned home from England where he faced relentless humiliation following serious allegations of spot-fixing against the players.
He is of the view that the players are innocent until proven guilty and that they will be subject to a stern action if their crime is established.
The PCB Chairman had done a disappearing act following the serious allegations of spot-fixing leveled against some of the players by foreign Tabloid News of the World.
As he arrived in Lahore and appeared outside the airport a large crowd present there greeted him with vociferous slogans against PCB. Heavy presence of security personnel was seen at the airport for the safety of Ijaz Butt.
Talking to media at the airport, the PCB Chairman said nothing has so far been proved against the players and that the PCB will initiate a strict action against them if they were found guilty.
“Although the Scotland Yard grilled the players, the former did not put any charge against the cricketers,” he said, adding the ICC has its own Code of Conduct invoking which the Council suspended the players.
He said he has not yet made any decision in connection with going into litigation against the Tabloid.
The PCB Chairman appeared indifferent and maintained his usual composure in the face of fierce slogans against him and PCB.
