Phones worth $100m imported in current FY

Phones worth $100m imported in current FYKARACHI: Mobile phones worth $103 million were imported into the country during the first eight months of the current fiscal year, Geo News reported Sunday.

The mobile phones imports are three percent in excess of that of last fiscal year.

According to statistics issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), machinery and products used in telecom sector worth at least $476.3 million were imported during the first eight months of the current fiscal year, which is 7 percent less than that in the corresponding period last year.

However, telecom machinery and products worth $65.7 million were imported in February 2010 alone, which is 114 percent ahead of February 2009 figure and 18 percent less against that in January 2009.
