ISLAMABAD: Foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar Tuesday told Senate that pirates abducted Pakistani nationals for ransom (in the international waters) four times in the last three years, Geo News reported.

In the same breath, she also said that government avoided a direct involvement in such issues only to discourage pirates from upping the ante in ransom.

Senate met on Tuesday under the chair of Farooq H Naek.

This session’s highlight was the visit of a group of Indian parliamentarians.

Renowned actor Shatru Ghun Sinha is also accompanying the visitors form India.

Khar also told the Upper House that Pakistani missions overseas, in the last five years, earned Rs13.36 billion issuing visas and providing other services.
