Toll reaches 12 in Gujranwala store collapse

GUJRANWALA: Twelve people were killed and 18 others injured when a three-storey departmental store collapsed at Satellite Town Market here on Friday, Geo News reported Saturday.

The fire also erupted in the building after the under-construction third floor caved in, causing the collapse of all the building.

The Rescue 1122 staff reached the spot, extinguished the fire and started the operation.

The deceased included two children while at least eight people are still trapped under the rubble. Rescue efforts are underway to recover the trapped people.

A majority of victims were shopping when the building collapsed. A heavy contingent of the police also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation. Meanwhile, the DHQ Hospital medical superintendent declared emergency and called all the doctors to deal with the emergency.
