Siachen rescue operation update

RAWALPINDI: Search and rescue operation at Gayari sector is being carried out round the clock since April 07 when an avalanche hit army camp and buried 138 personnel.

Cold weather is resulting into frequent breakdown of plant equipment, a statement issued by the ISPR said. However, all out efforts are being under taken to keep maximum plant equipment functional.

The platforms constructed on all sites have been consolidated and excavation work is being focused on expansion of the sites.

Ground penetrating Rader Teams have indentified two more points for further probe. Since 7th April 2012, when avalanche hit Battalion Headquarters at Gayari, a total of 1.73 million cubic feet area have been excavated.

Norwegian team after rendering necessary assistance have arrived in Islamabad and will be leaving for their country tomorrow.
