ISLAMABAD: Senator Babar Awan has been removed from the post of Secretary Finance Pakistan Peoples Party, Geo News reported.
According to sources Rukhsana Bangash has replaced him.
Moreover, Awan’s name has also been taken off the Central Executive Committee members' list posted on the party’s website.
Rukhsana Bangash has served as the political secretary of President Asif Ali Zardari and is a Member of National Assembly of Pakistan Peoples Party on reserved seats for women .
Awan's brother Farooq Awan has also been sacked as the adviser to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Awan's falling from grace in the party was in the making for some time now as statements like that of Punjab Governor Latif Khosa, in which he termed the former law minister Senator Babar Awan and Masood Chishti as Mir Jafar and and Mir Sadiq for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lays it all bare.
Earlier, reports were doing rounds that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had sent a list of officials, appointed by former law minister Babar Awan, to party leadership for their termination from the posts.
It was also reported that party workers and leaders have turned against Senator Babar Awan after his refusal to be a witness in the prime minister’s contempt of court case. After Awan’s refusal, a new legal team was formed, headed by Aitzaz Ahsan. They also said the party would take stern action against him and his “favourite officials” in the days to come.
It is pertinent to mention that Awan has been facing “a real hard time” now-a-days, as a group was busy lobbying to drum him out.
