PIC provides free drugs to 123,000 patients

LAHORE: The administration of Punjab Institute of Cardiology provided free medicines to more than 123,000 patients besides conducting 653 cardiac surgeries in April 2012.

This was stated by Medical Superintendent PIC Dr Muhammad Javed while briefing one month's performance of the institution.

He informed that 35,776 new patients had been registered in one month and, out of them, 30,449 were poor patients hence a ratio of poor patients was 85 percent.

He said a total of 8,722 echocardiography tests were performed out of which 6,497 tests were performed free which was 74.5 per cent of the total number of tests.

Similarly, during the month of April, 15482 x-rays were carried out of which 10,972 were free while 3,126 were paid by patients.

He mentioned that 1,657 Exercise Tolerance Tests (ETT) were performed out of which 1,060 patients were poor whereas 384 patients were paid.

Moreover, 4,919 angiography/angioplasty have also been carried out and 2,507 were carried out free. He told in a briefing the during that period, 594 CT angiography tests had also been performed and out of these only 95 were paid by patients.

Dr Muhammad Javed said the PIC was also extending free treatment and diagnostic facilities to the government servants as well as the lawyers community, he added. (APP)
