KARACHI: The operation in Lyari has entered its seventh day as clashes between the security forces and criminals continued, Geo News reported Thursday.

During operation by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), two alleged criminals were killed who were identified as Junaid and Sheraz. Arms were also recovered from their possession that included two Kalashnikovs, bullets and a wireless set.

The ninth grade examination has also been cancelled that was scheduled for today.

The troubled locality resembled a battlefield as Wednesday saw no break in violence. At least seven people including three children and a woman were killed while the house of provincial minister Rafique Engineer was also burnt by angry protesters.

Earlier additional police forces were sent to Cheel Chowk, Lee Market and Kharadar after hand grenades were used by the criminals.

Frontier Corps (FC) is also participating in the operation along with the police.

During the operation, residents were forced to migrate from the affected area while business activities were adversely affected.
