KARACHI: Interior Minister, Rehman Malik on Saturday said if law and order situation was created in Lyari again, the onus of it would fall squarely on the banned Amn Committee, Geo News reported.

Talking to media persons here, the Interior Minister asked the media not to present a man who had fired RPGs and killed 6 people as a hero.

However, he added that Lyari was an area where not only miscreants from Taliban were present but also from al-Qaeda. The area is also a house to narcotics as well as gambling dens, he said.

Earlier, addressing a gathering on the occasion of 'Bara Khana' hosted in the honour of police personnel who participated in Lyari operation, Rehman Malik revealed that bullets of steel were used against the police in Lyaris besides RPGs.

He said those who call themselves innocent do not possess anti-aircraft guns.

The Interior Minister said resistance was put up by the miscreants when police tried to arrest them and as a result reinforcements had to be called out in the area.

"A full-fledged operation was never meant to be launched in Lyari, as only a handful of miscreants were supposed to be held," he added.
