Judicial Commission meeting remains inconclusive

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of Judicial Commission chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has ended inconclusively, Geo News reported.

Senior judges and members of the commission, including Attorney General for pakistan Irfan Qadir, Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek and representative of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Khalid Ranjha attended the meeting.

The Judicial Commission took up the matter related to the appointment of two ad hoc and one additional judges in the Supreme Court.

It may be mentioned here that after a lengthy all Pakistan lawyers representatives' meeting on Saturday, PBC Vice-Chairman Akhtar Hussain said the appointment of ad hoc judges had been discouraged by the Supreme Court in its judgments.

Representatives of the PBC, Supreme Court Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council, Balochistan Bar Council, Lahore High Court Bar Association, Peshawar High Court Bar Association, Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council and former SCBA chiefs Tariq Mahmood and Asma Jehangir also attended the meeting.

The PBC Vice-Chairman said that such an appointment could only be made after the approval of the President on the advice of the Prime Minister.

It was also announced on the occasion that a committee headed by the PBC Vice-Chairman will meet the Chief Justice before the meeting of the Judicial Commission to apprise to him of the bar's point of view.
