LAHORE: A mob burnt three public buses after a student was crushed to death allegedly by a public transport bus in Dharampura area on Monday.
Protestors blamed that an 18-year-old student, Tabish Aslam, fell from an over-crowded bus that he had boarded to reach Technical Training College, Gulberg, where he was studying in fourth year.
Witnesses said that Tabish Aslam was standing at the footstep of the bus, and was crushed under its wheels after falling when the driver closed its door. He died on the spot, they added.
Following the killing, a large number of the college students gathered there and burnt three buses of the Lahore Transport Company.
They shouted slogans against the bus operator company and demanded arrest of the driver and conductor of the bus.
According to the witnesses both the driver and conductor of the bus managed to escape from the scene after the incident.
However, the angry mob blocked the road that lead to massive traffic gridlocks. Hundreds of the vehicles were stuck up for more than an hour. Later, the area police dispersed the mob, clearing the road for vehicular movement.
Students claimed that the police had taken into custody five students on charges of carrying out arsonand violence.
However, no arrest of the bus's driver or conductor was claimed by police till filing of this report. (PPI)
