ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Ministry has claimed that unannounced loadshedding will cease from Friday. Meanwhile Rs7 billion have been released to PSO for the supply of oil to thermal power houses.

The announcement by the Water and Power Ministry comes as protests against loadshedding took a violent turn in several cities across Punjab on Thursday.

The power crisis has also garnered strong criticism not only from the opposition but also from the governments ally the PML-Q which threatened to leave the coalition government over the matter.

During Thursday’s emergency meeting, President Zardari had directed the Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar to take effective measures for the elimination of unscheduled loadshedding.

Meanwhile PEPCO states that circular debt is a major reason for the power crisis as billions are owed by the federal, provincial governments and power companies.
