Pakistan declared poppy free by UNODC

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Saturday declared Pakistan a poppy free country, Geo News reported.

The UNODC issued the annual report about the state of poppy production, it's usage and transport route here today.

According to the report, at least five percent of the world population is addicted. The report said that opium worth Rs 30 billion is produced in Afghanistan and smuggled via Pakistan.

Pakistan is the most vital route of Afgan poppy smuggling, two third of it is routed through Makran.
