ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed regret over an underground nuclear test conducted by North Korea on Tuesday.
According to a Foreign Office press release, all countries should comply with their respective international obligations. The press release adds that Pakistan supports a nuclear weapons free Korean peninsula as agreed by all parties in the Framework Agreement on 1994 and reaffirms its support for the six-party talks process.
North Korea confirmed that it has conducted an underground nuclear test, drawing immediate condemnation from rival South Korea.
"A third nuclear test has been successfully staged," the state-run Korean Central News agency said.
"The nuclear test was conducted as part of measures to protect our national security and sovereignty against the reckless hostility of the United States that violated our republic's right for a peaceful satellite launch," KCNA said.
