Haqqani’s plea to prorogue memo case proceedings declined
ISLAMABAD: Adjourning the next hearing till April 26, the Judicial Commission Thursday rejected Husain Haqqani’s request for proroguing the memogate case proceedings, Geo News reported.

Haqqani’s counsel, Zahid Bukhari, had filed a plea in this regard, which was turned down by the commission.

Sources told Geo News that, Foreign Secretary, Jalil Abbas, briefed the commission during its in-camera session. The commission also went through the record regarding alleged misappropriation of secret diplomatic funds during April-December period last year, they added.

During the regular session, Zahid Bukhari told the commission that Haqqani had written to the BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion (RIM) to surrender his privacy rights. The memo commission later demanded further details of Haqqani’s correspondence with the RIM.

Bukhari’s entreaty that the commission either let Haqqani testify via videolink as he was too ill to travel or wait for the Supreme Court’s decision was turned down as before.

On the other hand, one of Mansoor Ijaz’s lawyers moved the judicial commission to slap a contempt notice on Haqqani, whereas PML-N’s counsel too requested the same treatment for Haqqani’s pleader Asma Jehangir.
