Mother, child healthcare week from May 7
HYDERABAD: Sindh Health Department in collaboration with UNICEF will observe mother and child healthcare week in the Sindh from May 7 to 12.

This was stated by the Incharge National Programme for Family Planning and Basic Health Dr. Saifullah Qaimkhani while addressing a news conference here on Saturday.

He said that mortality rate among the mothers is increasing in Pakistan as 276 among 0.1 million mothers are lose their lives during birth every year.

The increasing mortality rate among mothers and children in Pakistan was because of lack of awareness of healthcare as well as the non availability of basic health facilities, he said and added that majority of mothers failed to survive as a result of pregnancy complications while the newly born babies lost their lives due to pneumonia and dehydration.

He said during the week 23,000 lady health workers will go door to door and besides motivatiing the women for taking preventive measures, they will also administer anti-polio drops to children along with other vaccines.

Necessary information for preventive measures against malaria and pneumonia as well as benefits of the use of ORS and Zinc will also be communicated to 19,36,0302 women. (APP)
