The prime minister will meet members of Iranian and Pakistani business community during his visit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Iran's northeastern city Mashhad later on Sunday for a two-day official visit to further strengthen bilateral ties in diverse fields.

After a brief stay in Mashhad, the prime minister left for Tehran, an official notification said later in the day.

The premier will remain in the neighbouring country from April 21-22 on the invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. This is the premier's first visit to Iran since assuming office.

During the visit, PM Imran will call on Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei and will also hold detailed consultations with President Rouhani.

He will also meet members of the Iranian and Pakistani business community in Iran.

A high-level delegation is accompanying the prime minister.

Pakistan’s relations with Iran are marked by close historic and cultural linkages and strong people to people exchanges. Both countries are also members of the Economic Cooperation Organisation and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
