Rafique says democracy is in danger today

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and Member National Assembly Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Tuesday that he has seen jails multiple times in his political career, people from the treasury benches will be the next to be put behind bars.

Speaking in the national assembly, the PML-N leader said "in coming years people from the treasury benches will be jailed, they don't know about it yet, the democracy is in danger today. Those who can't understand it should come out of their misconception that they can easily complete their five years’ tenure."

The former railways' minister said that there can't be a charter under duress. "You can't have a charter with a gun on someone's forehead. We have to put down the political temperature but no one is willing to do it," he added.

Rafique said that either Prime Minister Imran Khan should stop saying that he won’t give NRO to the opposition leaders as it’s not the mandate of an elected premier or he should accept that he is ‘selected’.

The PML-N leader said that the salaried class is facing the brunt of the budget proposed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. “The budget is a last nail in the coffin of the real estate industry,” he said.

Rafique said that how can the government hit its target of collecting Rs5,500 billion tax revenue when it can’t collect even Rs 4,000 billion.
