Fatima Jinnah’s 46th death anniversary observed
ISLAMABAD: The 46th death anniversary of Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was observed Tuesday with great respect and reverence.

Various political organisations, schools and colleges held special activities to mark the day in a befitting manner.

On this occasion‚ a number of functions‚ conferences and seminars were held to pay rich tribute to the Madar-e-Millat.

Speakers highlighted the services of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah for creating a separate homeland -Pakistan- for the Muslims of the subcontinent.

Fatima Jinnah‚ the younger sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a dental surgeon‚ biographer‚ and stateswoman. She was born in 1893. Due to her brother's keen interest‚ and despite strident family opposition‚ Fatima received excellent early education.

Fatima Jinnah joined the Bandra Convent in 1902. In 1919 she got admitted to the highly competitive University of Calcutta where she attended Dr. Ahmad Dental College. After she qualified‚ Jinnah went along with her idea of opening a dental clinic in Bombay and helped her set it up in 1923.

She played an active role in national politics in 1965 after announcing her presidential candidacy, running against Ayub Khan in the 1965 elections and traveling West-Pakistan and East-Pakistan during the election campaign. (PPI)
