Earlier, the relatives of the slain cops placed their bodies on the main Grand Trunk Road near the Balahisar Fort to protest against the government and the police bosses for not taking action against those involved in killing of policemen in the city.

An official said ASI Fazal Wahab and ASI Amin Jan along with constables were performing duty at a checkpoint on Dilazak Road near the Ring Road in the limits of Paharipura Police Station when the attackers opened fire on them at around 8:00pm. The two ASIs along with Constables Ayub and Liaquat were killed in the indiscriminate fire.

However, no arrests were made. The relatives of the slain policemen while protesting against the federal and provincial governments and police chiefs placed the bodies on the busy GT Road near Balahisar Fort. They demanded early arrest of the killers.

No senior police officials or ministers met the protesters. Senior officials were standing away on Khyber Road when the road was blocked for traffic.

The closure of the road caused long traffic jams and made the people suffer. However, former information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who belongs to the Awami National Party, met the protesters and expressed his sympathies with the relatives of the slain cops.

Mian Iftikhar had been quite active in reaching bomb explosion sites and other trouble spots when his party was in power and he has continued to do so after his party lost power and was defeated in the May 2013 general elections.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak later issued a statement, praising the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. He also appreciated the sacrifice rendered by the four cops in Sunday’s attack.
