RAWALPINDI: A three-day 11th National Women Softball Championship 2014 will be held at Pindi Cricket Stadium from Friday.

In a joint announcement here, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar Dall and Chairperson Senate Standing Committtee on Sports Kalsoom Perveen said.

Six teams from all over the country including defending champions Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Police Department would participate in the championship.

They said final of the Championship would be played on April 20.

Secretary Softball Federation Haider Khan Lehri Chief Coordinator and District Officer sports Manzar Shah Organizing Secretary Ramzan Qureshi and Sports Officer Waheed Babar were also present on the occasion.

The DCO informed that venue of the event has been shifted from Baluchistan to Rawalpindi due to some unavoidable reasons and it is encouraging to see interest and enthusiasm of young girls in this sport.

He said more such events including hockey and football would be organized with the objective of providing sports opportunities to girls so that they could prove their talent.

Sajid Zafar said under 16 Inter Club Women Football Championship 2014 would also be held from April 22 to 27 at Divisional Public School in which six teams would participate.

He said preparations are also underway to organize Hockey and Table Tennis Tournaments in Rawalpindi.

Senator Kalsoom Parveen highlighted importance of sports for girls and stressed the need to encourage their participation in different sports, especially from Sindh, KPK and Balochistan provinces. (APP)
