Beverley Hill expresses her commitment to fight gendercide
DALLAS: Ms. Beverley Hill, the founder and President of a women rights organization "Gendercide Awareness Project", which was formed to combat prejudice and injustice against women, has said that China is leading in Gendercide index and India is at second place.

Addressing a special meeting of South Asia Democracy Watch Board of Directors, Ms. Hill said that her group is fighting a systematic mass genocide of women population, through selective abortion in many countries of the world.

Ms. Hill said that this problem is quite pervasive in South Asian countries even though the developed countries are not far behind. It is essential that we raise awareness on this issue among people, to fight this menace.

She said the struggle against this injustice is not just a one or two year struggle, but will require decades of sustained efforts to change the balance to a normal gender proportion.

Ms. Hill further said if this issue is not addressed today then the situation will further deteriorate. As a natural process men and women born are generally in proportion of 107 to 105 as male birth is generally higher than female.

However, she said, that 2 million of girls are aborted every year through the advanced knowledge of gender of the fetus. Giving statistics of various calamities, she said that where world war one took about 20 million lives, where Aids has taken 25 million and where second world war has taken about 70 million lives, the gendercide by itself is responsible for killing of 119 million of girls, as this is a horrendously high number and this is why the term of "Gendercide" is coined to alarm people of the enormity of the issue.

She said that ten percent in China, seven percent in India and seven percent of women in Afghanistan disappear chiefly because of selective abortion of female fetus.

She said that a plan is prepared to raise awareness of this issue throughout the world, where 11,700 girl's shoes are planned to be collected internationally, and will be put on exhibition where each shoe will represent 10,000 each of disappeared women.

She said that men are considered assets and women are considered a liability in a number of societies around the world. Ms. Hill said that she want to raise this issue at UN and other international forums too.

She said it is unfortunate that laws are there in a number of countries against the practice of selective abortions, but the implementation on the law is far from reality.

She thanked South Asia Democracy Watch for supporting the cause and said that the help from this group will be a milestone for the cause. The South Asia Democracy Watch board members, Dr. Qaiser Abbas, Tausif Kamal, Syed Fayyaz Hassan, Raja Zahid Khanzada, Muzaffar Kashmiri, Siraj Butt and Aftab Siddiqui assured Ms. Beverly Hills for a complete cooperation to "Gendercide Project".

They thanked Ms. Hill for the initiative and said that South Asia Democracy Watch will work towards the goals of "Gendercide Project" and will be among sponsor of the grand program.
