Attack on Hamir Mid: Police complete geo-fencing of the area
KARACHI: The local police have initiated investigation from various angles to identify the attackers who ambushed Geo TV’s senior anchor Hamid Mir, injuring him seriously, while the investigating team has also completed the geo-fencing of the area after 24 hours of the incident, Geo News reported on Monday.





The probe team comprising police officials of Karachi Police recorded the details of the entire crime scene employing the details gathered from the eye witnesses and other sources.

During the recording, the same car was used in which Hamid Mir was travelling at the time of attack. The video also included the driver and Mir’s guard who were with him during the ambush.

It is pertinent to mention here that senior anchor Hamid Mir was attacked in Karachi on Saturday evening while his car was leaving the airport. The attack took place when a lone gunman donned in a shalwar kameez fired at Hamid Mir’s car outside the airport. The driver sped away but the gunman chased the car. Two motorcycles and a car followed Mir as the firing continued.

The attackers followed Mir’s car up to Karsaz and disappeared. While being chased Hamid Mir spoke to his colleagues over the phone and informed them about the attack.

Meanwhile, doctors at the Aga Khan hospital on Sunday claimed that Hamid Mir was shot six times. Three bullets were removed during surgery while three are still lodged in his body.

One bullet hit Hamid Mir in the ribs under the arm, one in the stomach, one grazed his hand while two pierced his thigh on the front and one on the back of the thigh which doctors have not been able to remove as it is lodged in the bone. Doctors will decide about removing the bullet lodged in the bone after further examinations.

According to the medical team looking after Hamid Mir, his condition was improving and they were hopeful that he will regain consciousness soon.

Additional Inspector General of Police Shahid Hayat Khan said they were waiting for the statement of Hamid Mir’s family before lodging an FIR. He said as soon as they delivered their statement to the police, an FIR would be lodged at the Airport Police Station.

Shahid Hayat said they had already started an investigation from different angles. He said a number of bullets were fired at the car out of which six hit Hamid Mir.

He said the police had found nine spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene which had been sent to the forensic division of the police.

Also, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday ordered a judicial inquiry into the attack and decided to constitute a three-member judicial commission to probe the murder attempt on Hamid Mir. A formal request would be sent to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to nominate three members of the commission.

The government also announced a reward of Rs10 million for any information leading to the arrest of the culprits. Meanwhile, journalists and civil society members held countrywide protest demonstrations against the attack on Hamid Mir and demanded of the government to take immediate measures to provide protection to journalists.
