MULTAN: Security has been put on high alert in Southern Punjab in a bit to preempt any backlash as a result of the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.

Several contingents of the Pakistan Army have been deployed in different districts of Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) wing of the Pakistan Army, in the backdrop of terror incidents in reaction of Zarb-e-Azb feared in southern Punjab, security has been put on high alert, while troops equipped with modern weapons have been sent to different districts of DGK and Multan for immediate deployment to thwart any attempt from the terrorists.

The ISPR adds that contingents include troops from the Quick Reaction Force and Rapid Reaction Force which are fully capable of meeting any emergency situation.

A joint operation and coordination centre headed by Major General Hasnat Amir has also been set up, where officers of police, civil administration and sensitive organizations along with the army will be available for security in Multan, DGK, and Sahiwal divisions.
