Malala Day being observed today
SWAT: Malala Day as announced by the United Nations to mark the birthday of Malala Yousafzai is being observed globally today (Monday).

This year, July 14 marks an occasion that the terrorists never wanted to happen: Malala turns another year older and completes another year of school.

Malala Yousafzai, an international youth advocate for the education and advancement of women was born in July 1997 in Swat, Pakistan. As the daughter of a schoolteacher, she valued and continued her education despite threats from the Taliban. In 2012, a masked gunman entered her school bus and attempted to assassinate her and two of her friends.

The gunman failed to kill Malala or her cause.

Malala’s story brings to light the struggle for education that girls around the world face today. Malala Day, July 14, is an important day to raise awareness and to help girls realize their right to an education.

“My birthday wish this year is that we all raise our voices for those under oppression, to show our own power and courage is stronger than their campaign of fear,” says Malala.
