CM Shahbaz’s statement presented in Model Town inquiry tribunal

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s statement was presented in the tribunal probing the Model Town tragedy on Saturday.

Chief Minister Sharif’s statement was presented on his behalf by the Special Secretary and read out by Advocate General Punjab.

According to the statement, the chief minister saw that police action was taking place at Minhajul Quran on his television on June 17. The chief minister called Principal Secretary Tauqeer Shah who informed him that a decision had been taken during a meeting on June 16 chaired by the then provincial law minister Rana Sanuallah to remove hurdles outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariat.

The chief minister called an emergency meeting and ordered immediate aid to the victims of the tragedy. A decision was taken to conduct an inquiry of the incident by a Lahore High Court judge and form a joint investigation team.

CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations and SP Model Town have also appeared before the tribunal.
