Invoking Article 245 to halt protests is ‘wrong’: Shah
SUKKUR: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah says invoking Article 245 to halt protests will be a mistake and will spell failure for the government.

Speaking to Geo News, Khursheed Shah said use of power was wrong under a democratic system, adding the government should use political reconciliation instead.

Government Failure

Shah stated that summoning the army to halt a political protest in Islamabad was not the failure of the interior ministry but that of the entire government. He added that replacing the interior minister was the ruling PMLN’s internal matter.

Four years of Power

Shah suggested that the tenure of the elected assemblies should be reduced to four years instead of the current five year term. He explained that after four years everyone’s patience crosses the limit, therefore a four year tenure will be beneficial. He further added, that the ruling PMLN may not like this suggestion and therefore the 4-year term should be introduced after the incumbent government completes its 5-year term.

CEC

Commenting on the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, the opposition leader said the slot should not be reserved only for judges; whoever seems to be a good executive should be appointed CEC.
