Nobody can derail democracy: Ex-CJ
QUETTA: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that conspiracies were hatched in the past to derail democracy and again such efforts were being made to wrap up the democratic system.

Addressing a ceremony here on Friday, he said that the lawyer fraternity will launch a movement from Quetta if any such conspiracy was made again.

He said that lawyers not played their role to strengthen democracy and for the supremacy of law, the country would be under martial law.

The ex CJ said the lawyers didn’t back down despite May12 bloodshed in Karachi and it was the lawyers fraternity due to which election was held in Pakistan in 2008.

He said that there was no relief for people of Balochistan for the excesses meted out to them while cases of missing persons were still pending in courts.
