Five dead as rain lashes Karachi

KARACHI: At least five people were killed as the first monsoon rain lashed the port city early on Saturday.

Heavy rainfall with strong winds, was reported from I.I. Chundrigar Road, Kharadar, Meethadar, Burns Road, FB Area. Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Malir, Airport, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Maymar, DHA, Clifton and other areas.

Rainwater inundated roads in different parts of the city. Three people including a child and woman were killed when walls of two houses collapsed in Naval Colony area of Baldia Town and SITE Town. Two other people were electrocuted in Buffer Zone area of the city.

Lights Out

Due to the heavy rainfall, multiple grid-stations of KElectric (formerly KESC) went offline with dozens of feeders tripping causing blackouts in multiple areas of the metropolis. T

Speaking to Geo News, KElectric spokesman Usama Qureshi emphasised that teams were working to restore the 80 effected feeders adding that power would be restored in the next four hours.
