Protests hampered country’s progress: PM Nawaz
LAHORE: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that sit-in and protests hindered the progress of the country and that he accepted the legitimate demands of the protesters, Geo News reported.

During an interview, the premier said that the elected government is being asked to step down. He said that it is possible that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri dreamt of staging a protest the same day.





Nawaz Sharif said that the people’s mandate cannot be sabotage by few thousand people only. He expressed surprise over Dr Qadri’s demands as most of his demands had been accepted by the government.

The PM said that due to the current political uncertainties, the country’s development was jeopardized. He stated that the facts will be unveiled soon before the nation. The National Assembly has already approved a resolution to protect the democracy and will not let any anti-democracy scheme to flourish.

Nawaz Sharif further stated that everything was sorted out in Bani Gala but it was beyond comprehension that what went wrong all of a sudden.

He told that an application has already been filed in the Supreme Court for the commission and the government will respect its decision. He said that the country has suffered due to dharnas and protests. He asserted that no anti-democracy step will be tolerated.

The presidents of Maldives and Sri Lanka canceled their visits while the Chinese president is due to arrive to inaugurate power projects.
