SC gives PTI, PAT time till Tuesday to suggest possible solution

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday gave Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) time till Tuesday (tomorrow) to suggest possible role in resolving the current political tension, Geo News reported.

Earlier, the court had asked PTI lawyer Ahmed Owais if the party could play any role in resolving the current crisis in the country.

The apex court heard the case pertaining to extra-constitutional steps on Monday during which Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk asked if the court could give any advice to resolve the crisis.

PTI lawyer Ahmed Owais replied that he could not offer an answer to this question immediately to which Chief Justice Mulk inquired if an answer could be provided in one hour.

Justice Saqib Nasir remarked that the apex court was the only forum for political justice. He said the court had received seven petitions and was aware of all the issues.

Justice Nasir further remarked that the constitution and country itself was at risk and asked the PTI lawyer to seek a response from the party leadership as the bench hearing the case would continue the proceedings until a solution was obtained.

Justice Nisar added that developments taking place on the streets were not in line with the constitution.

When the hearing resumed after an hour, the court provided time till tomorrow to the lawyers to hold consultations with their leaderships for the possible role in resolving the crisis.

Chief Justice Mulk remarked that media was broadcasting reports stating that the court offered mediation which is false. He further said that the court only decides on the cases that are presented to them.
