Educational activities to remain suspended till killers arrest: KUTS
KARACHI: Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) Sunday announced to keep all educational activities suspended until the killers of Islamic Studies Dean Professor Dr Muhammad Shakil Auj were arrested.

In a statement, Secretary KUTS Moiz Khan, however, said that the examinations will be held according to the schedule.

KUTS will also convene a ‘condolence meeting’ tomorrow.

On Thursday, the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University had announced three days of mourning over the murder of Dr Shakil Auj and as a result educational activities remained suspended at the campus.

It is pertinent to note here that Karachi University Dean of Islamic Studies Professor Dr Shakil Auj was killed in an armed ambush on University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The attack also left one of his girl students wounded.

In an interview given to BBC Urdu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pir Muhammad Shah had revealed that a decree was issued against Dr Shakil Auj over accusations of blasphemy by a local seminary, declaring him ‘worthy of murder’.

Another Police official Superintendent of Police Abid Qaimkhan was quoted as saying that some of the teachers had developed a personal grudge against Dr Shakil Auj over his appointment as Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies and in this connection an FIR was registered in Mubeena Town Police Station.
