ECP sends electoral reforms draft to committee
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had decided to amend the electoral laws of the country. The ECP has sent the draft of the amendments to the Electoral Reforms Committee.

According to details, the president will no longer be eligible to announce the election date unilaterally. The draft further states that the election date will be announced with the ECP’s consultation.

Returning officers will work under the Election Commission of Pakistan and votes cannot be transferred 90 days prior to the polling date.

The polling scheme will not be changed one month prior to the election while an increase has also been recommended in election expenses.

The draft also includes an increase in the number of days allotted for the scurrility of candidates from 7 to 15 days.

According to the draft, the membership of those parliamentarians who do not submit their asset details within 60 days will be suspended.
