Acceptance of PTI resignations cannot be delayed further: NA Speaker
ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday refused to further delay the resignation acceptance process of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs.

The NA Speaker appealed to PTI Chairman Imran Khan to come to the National Assembly and take back the resignations otherwise the process will be done according to rules from Thursday.

Ayaz Sadiq said whatever concessions could be made had been done so and the political jirga should consult the PTI over this matter by Thursday. Sadiq conveyed to the media that he had informed JI chief Sirajul Haq about this during their telephone conversation.

The NA Speaker said he had summoned PTI MNAs separately and the resignations will be verified according to rules. Sadiq further said he held several consultations and this matter could not be left unattended indefinitely.

Letters have been written to 25 PTI MNAs while five resignations have been sent back due to errors as they were addressed to the PTI chairman.

According to Sadiq, PTI lawmakers will be summoned in groups of three from September 25 and asked to verify that they submitted their resignations voluntarily. The first three to be summoned are Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and Ali Muhammad Khan.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has been summoned by the NA Speaker on October 13 to verify his resignation.
