Fund raising match brings joys and fun for IDPs
BANNU: Shahid Khan Afridi’s 16-ball 45-run knock enabled Boom Boom Afridi XI to 31 runs victory against DG ISPR XI in a friendly cricket fund raising match played at Baka Khel, camp for IDPs of North Waziristan Agency here.

World known star for his aggressive batting Shahid Khan Afridi hit a
cracking three boundaries and two sixes to steer his team consisting of IDPs youth to a thumping victory.

The 10 over match was organized at Bannu s Baka Khel IDPs camp where
Pakistan Twenty20 skipper Shahid Afridi led his team against ISPR XI led by Lt. Col. Asghar as team captain.

Shahid Afridi XI won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 88
runs in the allotted 10 for the loss of seven wickets with Shahid Khan Afridi was the pick of the pack who smashed all bowlers toward the boundary and received thundering applauses from the capacity cricket enthusiasts present on this occasion and witnessed the thrill packed match.

Shahid was on the crease facing 16 balls and made a cracking knock of
45 runs including three boundaries and two sixes.

DG ISPR Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa was also there and witnessed the thrill packed match and supported the players. Besides raising money for rehabilitation of IDPs the rare friendly match provided locals and IDPs a chance of entertainment and recreation.

The Shahid Khan Afridi XI provided a solid 88 runs target for victory to DG ISPR XI for chasing. Aamir Aziz took two wickets for DG ISPR XI.

In reply DG ISPR XI batting line up tumbled down losing seven wickets
for 57 runs only as none of the batsmen could stand in front of excellent bowling by Shahid Khan Afridi and his teammates.

Shahid Khan Afridi took two wickets and restricted the rivals to 57 runs giving 31 runs victory to his team.

Speaking to media Director General Asim Bajwa said Shahid Khan Afridi
is a living cricket legend and IDPs love all cricket players of Pakistan.

“Shahid Afridi is a legendary cricketer, he added. It was the demand of IDPs that Afridi be called in the camp for a cricket match. The people of North Waziristan are talented and cricket lovers,” he said.

Shahid Afridi on this occasion told media men that there is no dearth of talent and it is our responsibility to provide much needed exposure besides providing these talented youth a due facility. He lauded the efforts being put in by Pakistan Army to have playing field in which a pitch has prepared only to indulge the youth of IDPs in healthy sports activities.

Shahid Khan Afridi said that he had chalked out a plan to have two
cricket academies one each in Kohat and Peshawar. The Academies will have qualified coaches for polishing the budding youngsters, he added.

He urged upon more and more sports activities in tribal areas.

He said that the match was aimed at to provide facilities to the IDPs
besides ensuring entertainment to the traumatized tribal youth. He said the match would certainly highlight a message of peace to the rest of the world.

At the end the Shahid Khan Afridi and DG ISPR Major Gen Asim Bajwa gave
away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners up. (APP)
