ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Thursday took notice of the drought and shortage of food being faced by Sindh’s Tharparker district and directed the army to arrange food supplies and medicines for the affected people.

Meanwhile, relief activities carried out by the Pakistan army are underway in the drought-hit areas of Thar including Jhangra, Islamkot, Mithi and Deeplo.

The Prime Minister has sought report from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and also sought details about the financial aid provided to the people of Thar from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

According to Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR), the information wing of Pakistan Army, a total of 12.8 tons of relief goods have so far been distributed in the affected areas. More food supplies will be airdropped through helicopters, it added.

More than 1400 people have been provided medical help at the medical camps set up at four different places including Chachro and Deeplo.
