Mercy plea of 17 death row inmates dismissed
ISLAMABAD: The mercy plea of 17 death row inmates has been dismissed after the government lifted the ban on death sentences.

According to government sources, ten of the inmates on death row are from Punjab, six from Sindh and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan ended its moratorium on the death penalty in terror-related cases on Wednesday. Replying to a question during a news briefing, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said “there is no good and bad Taliban. The military operation is taking on all terrorists without any discrimination.”

The decision to lift the ban was made following the carnage at the Army Public School in Peshawar. Taliban gunmen stormed the school on Tuesday killing 146 people including 135 children.

Seven attackers all local militants have been identified by security agencies.
