Dr Usman and Arshad Mehmood executed

FAISALABAD: Aqeel alias Dr Usman, a former soldier of the army’s medical corps and the mastermind of the attack on the headquarters of the Pakistan Army in 2009 along with Arshad Mehmood, who was convicted for the assassination attempt on former president Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf have been executed in Faisalabad sharp at 9:00 PM, Geo News reported.

Ahead of the executions security was heightened at the central and district prisons in Faisalabad.

It is pertinent to mention that Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif Thursday signed the death warrants of six hardcore terrorists including Dr Usman, whose execution was pending.

Earlier, the two prisoners were shifted to district jail Faisalabad under the security of police and army soon after their death warrants were received. Last statements of both the prisoners were recorded and doctors examined them at the district jail.

Pakistan, following Peshawar school attack, lifted moratorium on execution of the death row prisoners.
