Ministry rules out reports of petrol shortage in the country

ISLAMABAD: Following reports of petrol shortage in few cities and towns of Punjab, the federal petroleum ministry on Sunday said that there is no truth in such reports as oil companies currently have a stock of 90,000 metric ton.

A spokesman of the ministry said that 14,728 metric ton petrol has been supplied to petrol stations despite a daily demand of 12,000 metric ton.

He said that a further 32,000 metric ton was being offloaded at the Karachi port. 11 ships are expected to bring a further 350,000 metric ton of petrol in the country this month, he added.

'Petrol cheapest in Pakistan'

Meanwhile, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said that Pakistan was selling petrol at the cheapest price in the world.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the government has transferred the maximum benefits of reduction in crude oil prices in the international market to the masses.

Rashid said that the government has reduced the petroleum prices by Rs37.68 in recent months.
