Delimitation for Sindh LG polls to begin from May 20

KARACHI: The delimitation process of union councils (UCs) in Sindh will begin from May 20, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Sunday vowing to complete the process in four months.

According to the schedule issued by the Sindh election commission, final notification of the delimitation would be issued by July 28 as the local government polls in the provinces are scheduled for September 20.

According to an official, district-level committees had been formed in this regard. There are around 1,100 UCs in Sindh, out of which 178 fall in the six districts of Karachi.

The delimitation carried out by Sindh government in 2013 was challenged by political parties in court. The Supreme Court later directed the provincial government to legislate on the issue and empower the election commission to carry out the process independently.
