LHC orders party-based LB polls in Punjab cantonment board
LAHORE: The Lahore High court on Monday ordered the Election Commission to conduct local bodies’ elections on party basis in Punjab's cantonment board.

Different petitions had been filed in the LHC challenging LB polls in Punjab scheduled to be held on non-party basis.

The petitioners had maintained that holding non-party elections negates the fundamental rights of citizens enshrined in the constitution.

Issuing a short verdict on the petitions today, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC ruled that conducting polls on non-party basis was “unconstitutional”, and contrary to Article 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

He ruled that holding polls on party basis would not cause any delays in the election schedule.
